Nigeria, Egypt in Fight for Survival as AFCON Round of 16 Continues

The knockout stage of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 is gathering momentum, with four teams already through to the quarter-finals as the Round of 16 continues.

So far, Senegal, Mali, Morocco and Cameroon have booked their places in the quarter-finals.

Senegal were the first to advance on Saturday, extending their unbeaten run at the tournament with a victory over Sudan.

Later the same day, Mali joined them after edging Tunisia on penalties, despite playing much of the encounter with 10 men.

On Sunday, tournament hosts Morocco progressed with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Tanzania in Rabat.

The Atlas Lions dominated proceedings and eventually found the breakthrough through Brahim Díaz.

Cameroon sealed the fourth quarter-final spot later on Sunday with a 2–1 victory over South Africa.

Attention now turns to the remaining Round of 16 fixtures scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

The outcomes of those matches will complete the quarter-final line-up and further shape the path to the final.

The AFCON 2025 quarter-finals will be played on Friday, January 9, and Saturday, January 10, with the final set for January 18 at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
