Governor’s Aide Reveals Otti’s Message to Kanu on Sokoto Visit

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has visited the convicted Leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

The Nation gathered that the governor made the visit on November 30 and briefly met Kanu behind closed-doors.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, said in the course of his discussion with Kanu, the governor encouraged him to remain strong.

Otti assured the IPOB leader that the engagements he started over two years ago, which Kanu was aware of, have been intensified, despite his conviction.

Kanu is from Abia State.

The governor assured him that the issue surrounding his plight and freedom would be resolved administratively and that the convict would regain his freedom.

“Governor Otti expressed joy that the Sultan of Sokoto is on the same page with him on the need for Kanu’s freedom and de-escalation of tension, and informed Mazi Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto had, on a lighter note, told him that Kanu is now his subject and he was going to turban him. This reportedly got Kanu laughing heartedly.

“Responding, Mazi Kanu, who was beaming with smiles and in high spirits, thanked Governor Otti for the visit.

“He stated that he wasn’t surprised that the governor quickly came visiting because he had done the same thing in the past.”

“He told the governor that he was very proud of his giant strides in Abia, based on the feedbacks he got from home about the state since Otti assumed office, a feat he said was replicating what the late Dee Sam Mbakwe did as the governor of the old Imo State, which has kept him permanently immortalized. He urged the governor to continue to serve the people diligently.

Kanu told Otti that he was only interested in good governance and anything else that could better the lot of the people.

Otti was accompanied by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, and some top Sokoto State government officials, including commissioners and advisers.

Also present during the visit was Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel.
