Workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have announced an indefinite strike action beginning Monday, January 19, 2026, following the alleged failure of authorities to address longstanding labour grievances.
The strike was declared by the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), which directed all categories of workers across the FCT to down tools.
According to the notice, the action will affect all FCTA secretariats, departments, agencies (SDAs), area councils and parastatals.
JUAC said the decision was taken after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum earlier issued to FCTA management, which it claimed was ignored without any meaningful response.
The unions listed several unresolved issues prompting the strike, including the non-payment of outstanding wage awards, unpaid promotion arrears, delayed promotions and the elongation of tenure of retired directors and permanent secretaries.
Other grievances include the alleged non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, poor working conditions, staff intimidation and what the unions described as the continued neglect of workers’ welfare.

JUAC also expressed concern over what it called a “mass failure” in the 2024 promotion examinations, which it said affected about 77.5 per cent of candidates.
The notice was electronically signed by the JUAC Secretary, who urged all workers in the FCT to fully comply with the directive until their demands are met.
As of the time of filing this report, the FCTA authorities had yet to issue an official response to the strike notice.
