Senate President Godswill Akpabio has directed that the upper legislative chamber reconvene plenary on Tuesday.
In a notice issued by Emmanuel Odo, clerk of the senate, senators were informed that the session will be held at 11 am in the senate chamber.
“I am directed by His Excellency, the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON to inform all Distinguished Senators that the senate will reconvene plenary session as follows: Date: Tuesday, 17th February, 2026; Time: 11 am; Venue: Senate Chamber,” the notice reads.
The clerk advised all senators to adjust their schedules to ensure attendance at the sitting.
“Consequently, all Distinguished Senators are kindly requested to note and reschedule their engagements accordingly to enable them attend as very crucial decisions will be taken on National issues, during the Session,” he added.
The senate had earlier adjourned plenary for two weeks to allow lawmakers participate in the ongoing budget defence sessions across various committees.
The dates for the 2027 general election recently announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are expected to form part of deliberations when plenary resumes.
Members of the house of representatives are also scheduled to hold an emergency plenary on Tuesday.
In a statement issued on Friday night, Akin Rotimi, house spokesperson, said lawmakers were notified of the emergency sitting through an internal memo from the office of the speaker.
