First Lady Calls for Joint Action on Family-Centred Initiatives to Address Inequality

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for stronger collaboration among governments, the private sector, civil society organisations and communities to advance family-centred initiatives that promote inclusion, equity and sustainable development.

She made the call in her message commemorating the 2026 International Day of Families marked on Friday.

The First Lady said the annual observance provides an opportunity to recognise the vital role families play in shaping societies and nurturing future generations.

According to her, this year’s theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” highlights the urgent need to address growing disparities affecting family stability and the welfare of children.

Mrs Tinubu noted that the wellbeing of every child is closely tied to the strength, security and support systems available within families.

“As we mark this important day, I call on all stakeholders including both public and private sector, civil society, and communities to work together in advancing family-centered initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, and sustainable development,” she said.

The First Lady stressed the need for sustained commitment towards building stronger families and a more just society where every child has equal opportunities to thrive.

She added that homes must remain foundations of love, values and prosperity for children and future generations.

“Let us remain committed to building stronger families and a more just society, where no child is left behind and every home becomes a foundation of love, values and prosperity,” she stated.

Mrs. Tinubu also extended goodwill to families across Nigeria and the world, as they joined the global community to commemorate the International Day of Families.
